Survey of Best Companies to Work for in 2013

Every year a survey is launched by publications like Fortune and Forbes magazine which ranks the best companies to work. On the 2013 survey there are companies you would expect to see like Cisco and Salesforce, but there are also several companies new to the list.

According to the survey conducted by Fortune magazine, the best company to work for is Google. The company is based in Mountain View, California and currently employs close to 34,000 people. Google generated $37 billion dollars last year and that number is expected to increase by ten percent in 2014. One of the main reasons Google is ranked the number one company to work for is because it provides great company perks and an innovative environment. In addition, Google also receives thousands of intern applications each year, which is not surprising since some internship positions pay $5,000 per month.

The company that made it to number 2 this year is SAS. The company employs over 6,000 people and is based in Cary, North Carolina. One of things that helped the company make the survey list this year is the on-site employee cafe that offers organic food selections. Company management believes that healthy employees make more productive and creative workers. Another thing employees like about working at SAS, is that the company works hard to create a motivating work environment.

Coming in at number 4 on this year's survey is The Boston Consulting Group. The company is based in Boston, Massachusetts and employs 2,300 people. Each year the company receives thousands of resumes from college seniors across the country. Most want to work at the company because it has developed a very elite and prestigious industry reputation. Many also want to work there because The Boston Consulting Group has a very impressive client portfolio. The company also believes in their consultants maintaining a work-life balance, and offers new hires the option of delaying their start date for up to six months. During this time the new hire can potentially receive $100,000 if they volunteer at a non-profit organization. It is no wonder that The Boston Consulting Group is considered a good company to work for.

One of the entertainment companies that made the survey list this year is DreamWorks Animation, which came in at number 12. The company employs over 2,000 people and is based in Glendale, California. One of the reasons DreamWorks is considered a good company to work for, is all the wonderful employee perks. This includes free fruit juice smoothies, and financial stipends given to employees to personalize their workspace. Of course the best employee perk of all is being able to work on cool film projects like Madagascar.


Other companies that made list include Intuit (#22), Zappos (#31), CarMax (#74), and Aflac (#84).
