Who Made Forbes 2013 Most Powerful Women List

Each year Forbes magazine compiles a list of the worlds most powerful women. This list contains women from all walks of life which range from businesswomen to musical performers.

Lets start with a look at some of the top ten women on the list. On this years list the number ten spot is held by Indra Nooyi, the CEO of PepsiCo. Nooyi is fifty seven years old and she has done a great job of helping PepsiCo reach one billion dollars in sales. One of the projects her company is currently working on is developing a new sweetner to be used in Pepsi soda products. This will hopefully help her company compete more effectively with Coca Cola.

Number three on this years list is Melinda Gates, wife of Microsoft founder Bill Gates. She is being recognized this year for all the work she is doing with the Gates Foundation. One of the primary goals of the Gates Foundation is eliminating polio. The foundation has volunteers that go around the world visiting people in small towns and villages who dont have access to quality healthcare. As of 2013, the foundation has earmarked one hundred and forty million dollars for this project.

Number six on this years list is Sheryl Sandberg, the CEO of Facebook. Some of the accomplishments Sandberg has made this year include adding mobile news feeds to the Facebook platform. This has allowed Facebook to attract more advertisers and also retain a higher number of users. However most people in the tech industry would say that Sandbergs book Lean In: Women, Work and the Will to Lead is her biggest accomplishment so far this year. The book has generated a lot of attention, especially among professional women. One of Sandbergs goal for 2014 is to transform Facebook into a major online advertising platform.

In addition to businesswomen, this years list also includes women with ties to politics. This includes first lady Michelle Obama and former secretary of state Hillary Clinton. Michelle Obama is being recognized for taking the lead on several community and health initiatives. This has included her national obesity campaign that is designed to help children make better food choices. It has been proven that healthy children do better in school. One of the elements of her campaign has been incorporating healthier food choices in school cafeterias. This has included replacing some desserts like cake and pies with fruits like apples, pears and oranges.

Hillary Clinton is being recognized this year for her long time political career. She is currently spending her time doing public speaking and working at the Clinton Foundation. Although there have been rumors that she will run for president in 2016, Clinton has publicly stated that she has no interest in being a presidential contender.

Other women who made the list include Julie Abrasom executive editor of the New York Times, Meg Whitman CEO of Hewlett-Packard and Geun-hye Park president of South Korea.
