White & Black Make a Comeback

According to several recent fashion reports, white & black will be making a comeback during the upcoming 2014 fashion season. The last time white & black was a major fashion statement was back in the 1980s and 90s.

During the 1980s white & black wedding themes were very popular. Most brides back them wanted their bridesmaids dresses designed in a white lace and accessorized with a long black velvet belt. It was very easy to dress the groomsmen, because they either wore white or black tuxedos. Many reception halls back then were decorated with black tablecloths accessorized with white dinnerware and napkins.
You could also find white & black being used quite frequently by interior designers during the 1990s. Many designed their clients living rooms with black lacquer chairs, white sofas and black & white wallpaper. It was also not unusual during this time to see master suites and bathrooms designed in white & black. This included white & black comforters and drapes, and black marble tubs, showers and sinks.

Some thought that using a white & black color theme made a room look too sterile, while others thought that it made a room look cool and very classy. At the end of the day it just comes down to personal taste.

In terms of fashion, during the 1990s a lot of fashion designers were designing white & black shoes, jeans, jumpers and suits. A lot of professional models back them also modeled a variety of white & black outfits during that time. This especially included the models featured in major fashion magazines like Glamour, Cosmopolitan and Vogue. These magazines were full of advertising pages that featured models wearing everything from white & black swim suits to white & black fur coats. In terms of fashion accessories, white & black lacquer necklaces and earrings were very, very popular.

Fast forward a decade later and we find white & black making a comeback in the fashion industry. According to several fashion reporters we can expect to see a lot of fashion designers using this color combination in their 2014 fashion lines. Many of these fashions will be featured during Paris and New York Fashion Week.

It will be interesting to see if the white & black color combination will be as popular as it was back in the 1980s and 90s. This not only includes in fashion, but also in interior designs and wedding themes. One thing is for sure however, and that is white & black are timeless colors.
